#10. Chinese Crested

It is a long-haired, small dog from Tibet, where it is known as the Bark Lion Sentinel Dog or Abso Seng Kye. Raised in villages and lamaseries around Lhasa, these dogs were bred to be a guard dog of houses while the Tibetan Mastiffs guard the outside.
Because of their duty, they are bred for sensitive hearing, intelligence, and sense to distinguish friends from the intruders. Sometimes, these dogs are referred to as Tibet lion dogs in the west. This is due to their lion-like coloring and long manes.
Lhasa Apsos are alert and keen, responsive to affection, easy to train, yet hostile to the strangers. Generally, they stand no more than 11” at their shoulder and come in different colors. Lion-like and golden colors are most preferred.

I had a Chinese Crested for 12 years her name was Jazzy. She was very classy. Best dog EVER!!! I miss her so much. They are wonderful dogs. She use to suntan with me and yes of course she had protective lotion and believe it or not she did get dark in the summer and light in the winter. She loved her playboy shirt the best. Lol
Chinese Cresteds are some of the sweetest, most beautiful and loving dogs ever. I have owned many and still have a few and this breed will truly keep you smiling from ear to ear. Please do your do diligence on researching the breeder and their dogs bloodline since many so called breeders are becoming or have been backyard breeders and produce dogs with health issues.
Make sure the breeder provides you any and all medical records and DNA tests they have done on their dogs bloodline.
Although hairless dogs have been found in many places in the world, it is UNLIKELY that the origins of the modern Chinese Crested Dog are in China. The breed was believed by some to have originated in Africa and was called the African Hairless Terrier in several 19th century texts; however, there is genetic evidence that shows a shared origin with the Xoloitzcuintli. The current name of the breed likely comes from their use on Chinese ships as ratters.
